All of our staff and coaches involved have a shared responsibility to support this safeguarding commitment by promoting the welfare of all children and adults at risk. We expect all adults engaging with children and/or adults at risk to proactively work to ensure these environments are safe and enjoyable.

We ensure all of our staff, coaches and volunteers coming into contact with our athletes will meet the following criteria:

• Valid UKCC Level 2 (Head Coaches)

Valid Safeguarding Certificate (Head Coaches)

Valid UKCC Level 1 or 2 (Assistant Coaches)

Valid 1st Aid Certificate (Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches)

England Netball’s Conscious Inclusion Course

Will have undergone a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

WELLBEING

Some concerns may relate to a young person’s general wellbeing, rather than due to them being subject to abuse. Manchester Thunder accepts its role in supporting the netball community with offering assistance to these individuals.

We believe that sport offers many positives in the lives of its young participants and that caring about the welfare of young people is part of the safeguarding duty which we all have. People in positions of trust can be a great influence in the lives of young people and so have the potential to notice changes, be available to talk to and to offer advice.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manchester Thunder is responsible for ensuring the environment in which young people and adults at risk engage in netball is a safe one which provides them with a fun experience. Lauren Millar is the lead Safeguarding Officer. Eliza Morgan and Laura Malcolm will ensure that all of our coaches have the necessary certificates as stated above. Manchester Thunder accepts its duty of care for the young people and adults at risk in the sport of netball. This means we will take reasonable measures to ensure that their participation in activities, which they are permitted to participate in, is safe and enjoyable.

Where necessary, Manchester Thunder will take Disciplinary Action against any members and connected participants and staff where breach of this Policy or the Codes of Conduct and Disciplinary Regulations is alleged.
